We ensure that there is an overlap of supervisory cover to enable continuity of operations. We recognize that geothermal drilling is a large investment for our clients – we are there to help protect that investment.  

A key point of difference offered by BDC Geothermal is our onsite training services, which are available globally. If you have a large geothermal drilling project for which you need to train a team of supervisors, we can work alongside you to get them operating safely and effectively.

David & Jennifer Brunswick
Principals of BDC Geothermal

 

David is an established professional in the industry, having nearly 40 years of practical experience in geothermal drilling, both in New Zealand and internationally. He has worked his way up through all of the roles on site, from Rough Neck to Rig Manager. He has been supervising for the past 16 years, working for his own consulting company.

David has worked on every geothermal field in New Zealand, notably the Wairakei, Kawerau, Ngawha, Mokai, Rotokawa and Ohaaki fields. In addition, David has extensive international experience having worked on geothermal fields in Indonesia, Iceland, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. This has resulted in comprehensive experience and lessons learned in a wide variety of drilling situations and environments. 

He is responsible for providing immediate and effective solutions for operational continuity, equipment malfunctions and other onsite problems. To facilitate smooth drilling operations, he closely monitors inventory levels, consumables and rental equipment. As well as closely monitoring day to day operations, he prepares work schedules and comprehensive drilling plans to meet project objectives.

His responsibilities also include: project management, procurement, site preparation, liaising with third party contractors, invoice management and budget control, assisting with drilling programmes, establishing and administering drilling and service contracts.

Jennifer holds a Diploma in Business Management and a Diploma in Small Business and Project Management. She provides strategic and administrative support to the business.

Experience

Hagen 45 years specialist experience in geothermal development projects, and in particular geothermal drilling operations. He has had extensive experience in the management and technical supervision of geothermal development projects in Indonesia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Philippines, UAE and New Zealand. Hagen has provided specialist geothermal drilling assistance in many countries around the world, including Azores, Canada, Chile, Djibouti, Germany, Iceland, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Peru, United States and St Lucia.

Responsibilities have included the management and technical specification of all phases of Geothermal Development projects from site selection and preparation, design and specification of wells, procurement of materials and drilling services, supervision of drilling activities, well testing and preparation of a Feasibility Study reports. In addition, he has participated in the development of aerated drilling systems and is a noted international geothermal lecturer. More recently Hagen has been integrally involved in the re-writing of New Zealand Code of Practice for Deep Geothermal Wells – NZS2403:2015.

Lindsay Fooks

Bachelor of Engineering degree, University of Canterbury.
New Zealand Nationality.

 

Experience

Lindsay has over 46 years of continuous engineering in geothermal projects, primarily in drilling. He established his own international consultancy which has been successful for the past 20 years. He has worked on projects in Azores, Colombia, Chile, Commonwealth of Dominica, Ethiopia, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, St. Lucia, Turkey, United States of America and Vanuatu. He has been guest lecturer at Auckland University’s Geothermal Institute and in Indonesia and Mexico. In Indonesia and New Zealand he provided onsite engineering management of the drilling of relief wells to intercept discharging well blowouts – successfully.

He co-authored the New Zealand code NZS 2403-1991 for deep geothermal wells in 1990 and helped revise and update the code to NZS2403-2015 in 2015. The majority of his work has been in the design, documentation, procurement and management of drilling materials and services for many different geothermal developments globally.
